June monthly meeting

Tuesday 15th

Our speaker for the evening was William Arnold, who is a professional guide at the hall. Giving us an historical outline of Doddington Hall, the gardens and history of the various families who had lived there over the past centuries, William’s recollections account of the history etc was vivid with a slide projector which allowed one to understand how things had altered over the great history of Doddington Hall. His (William’s) words were very clear and his diction perfect.
Enjoyed by all that were present at the meeting, which finished off with the normal question time.
Time then for the run down of future events and requests for help and donations at the Summer Fayre which is being held in the Methodist Church on Chapel Lane, North Hykeham, Bill gave an update on the Viking Way trip.
The raffle raised the grand total of £30-00 plus the tea, coffee and biscuits £11-00, many thanks to Julie and Susan for the raffle, Barry, Val and Ann for their splendid work in the (NAAFI) well done to one and all.

Grand tour of “The Viking Way”

Tuesday 22nd June

Setting off at 10-00am we made our way to Caistor for a tour of the beautiful Viking Way, Bill Lawton did a reconnoitre of the route at an earlier date to make certain that the places on route were suitable for the coach to manoeuvre around the various places of interest, this proved to of great use during the journey as Bill gave an excellent running commentary regarding as to the who, what, when, where and why things went the way they did.
Arrangements were also made by Bill for those that were on the tour to have lunch at the Kings Head in Tealby which is reputed to be the oldest pub in Lincolnshire (Circa 1300 hundreds) set in an idyllic place and with it being thatched gave it was a very impressive sight to see.
Being as we had arrived a little early for lunch it was an opportunity to taste the local beers etc. After lunch which I must say was very well received, it consisted of three different meats along with an ample salad consisting of lettuce, tomato, onion etc followed by either the apple pie and cream or the special “BOOZY” trifle which had quite a kick to it. Following lunch there was time for another taste of the local brew.
Several members did some exploring in the surrounding area. Several members mentioned that they would like another visit to the area at a later date it would certainly give those who missed out this time to come on the next tour.
Billy May our driver once again managed to get us to places that many other drivers would have struggled with, well done Billy. A newer bus was available but it did not have the sound system fitted, must have a word with the company to see if one could be fitted in the new one, watch this space.

Update on the “HEART 2 HEART MOSAIC PROJECT”

Amanda Parker (The Creative Arts Company) is making the final arrangements with Sister Sandra Rice for the presentation of the Mosaic which depicts the badge of the British Cardiac Patients Association. Over the three days twenty one volunteers very carefully put the pieces together to make the mosaic.
It has been said before but what a great effort that was put into this project, it was something that was all worthwhile, bringing a new meaning to helping one another, it was an experience that will never be forgotten. Amanda put the final touch to the mosaic.
A plea to the volunteers who helped with the Heart 2 Heart Mosaic Project, if you took any photographs of the event could you please send me copies via email so that I can download them and use them on clinic 3 as part of the publicity to promote the activities of the Lincoln Group.
