For the past two months the weather here in Lincoln has been terrible, what with the rain, snow, sleet, hail, high winds, along with how cold it’s been. Roll on summer but then again I believe we have already had that at the start of the year. Very soon, like most people, we will be looking for somewhere to book for our annual holiday. Ireland springs to mind – north or south. Never had a bad holiday there, although here the weather can be a little wet at times. So much to see, so much choice and lovely people.

The April meeting went very well. Richard Fines, one of our members, gave a talk on Diabetes a subject close to his heart being a sufferer himself. Richard covered all aspects of the symptoms, treatment, side effects, etc. He came across very well indeed explaining everything in great detail, finishing off with the usual question time, all questions were answered. Once again a most enjoyable evening.

By the time you read this our May 2nd meeting / function will have been and gone, so far over 65 tickets have been sold. We have quite a few excellent raffl e prizes, including one that was arranged by Helen a member’s daughter, Julie Treanor. Through her contact with them, Branston Produce have given a donation of £100 plus enough potatoes for the function. I will give a rundown in the next newsletter.

The Tuesday 3rd June meeting speaker will be Margaret Inkpen giving a talk on her experiences whilst doing voluntary work in Uganda at a home for children. From what I have heard it promises to be something not to miss.

At the meeting on Tuesday 1st July Paul Money, the well known astronomer and geologist, will entertain us with the fascinating subject Wonders Of The Universe.

Future attractions include another Strawberry Tea near the end of July, date to be arranged; Harvest Supper Friday 19th September at the North Hykeham Social Club; then on December 12th at the same venue we have our Christmas Party which will be held.

The members who go swimming at Wragby are enjoying all the facilities there, including the water at a constant 30C. At least two of the lifeguards have been trained up on the defi brillator supplied by the BCPA. The pool is open on two days a week, Mondays and Wednesdays – nice to have a choice. It is good to know that they are being well looked after.

The monthly walks are also doing very well, John Phillips keeps them all happy with all the various walks he arranges, ensuring they have their medication with them.

In late June, date to be confi rmed, Bill Lawton has arranged a day trip to Norwell Beck Society, audio visual presentation in the church of St Lawrence by the Emeritus Professor of History at Nottingham University, followed by lunch in the Plough Inn. After lunch we are invited by the Master of the Readyfi eld Blood Hounds at Caunton to see them in action. Finally a visit to Winkburns unique old church in the woods, one of only three original Temple Churches left in Britain.

Best wishes
